Junk food is in the news again. Researchers claim that the sugar, fat and salt rush of fast food has the same effect on the brain as hard drugs.
An article in the New Scientist this month suggests there is compelling evidence that junk food can alter brain chemistry in much the same way as hard drugs. One study has shown a rise in the levels of dopamine – a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure – after subjects just looked at pictures of their favourite junk foods.
